Celebrate Literacy with Poetry and Books

Spring is a wonderful time to celebrate! We have made it through the winter, and we look forward to Spring’s gifts. Spring is a great time to celebrate PALS volunteers, too – they are a gift to us all through the year! April is Volunteer Appreciation Month and we do really appreciate all the support our tutors give to PALS and our learners. We also appreciate our learners’ hard work and commitment to reading and writing. We will be showing our appreciation in person, at our AGM/ Learner & Volunteer Recognition Celebration on April 23rd. We really hope you can join us! Sign up here

National Poetry Month

April is also National Poetry Month. This year marks 25 years of this month-long celebration of poetry across Canada. In honor of National Poetry Month and Spring, we would like to share a Haiku. The Haiku is a Japanese poem that consists of just 3 lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables.

Fresh spring morning time.
That’s the sound of solitude,
the presence of peace.

World Book Day – April 23

April really is a month full of celebrations! On April 23rd, be sure to celebrate books on World Book Day! Curl up with a cup of tea and your favourite book or pop into a library and explore a new book. Don’t forget you can drop by PALS library to borrow a book during our office hours – anytime, not just on April 23rd. 🙂

Book Club!

This month, the Book Club moves to Mondays from 2 to 4 pm in the PALS library. Come join us as we dive into our new book, Contingency Plan. Book club is a fun way to do more reading and to meet new people. Connect with Bonnie or Kim to sign up.
