Diversity in Literacy Conference

PALS and ECALA are teaming up for the Diversity in Literacy Conference! Join us on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at NorQuest College (10215 – 108 Street NW) for an exciting day full of a variety of fun and educational workshops and presentations for adult learners, tutors, and the broader community. This event will celebrate diversity and showcase inclusive literacy practices, promote cultural awareness, and build a collaborative community.

  • Tools for Effective Tutoring
  • Learning with EPL
  • Stories of the World
  • Foundations of Intercultural Communication
  • Career Advancement Strategies for ELLs
  • Social Media to Connect
  • Tutor Advisory Committee Sharing Circle

And other topics such as… unconscious bias, intercultural communication, and more to be announced! Stay tuned for updates on the list of workshops.

We will have information tables from agencies in the community and a display room and celebrating the many cultures of our members.

Participate as a Volunteer!

Would you be interested in volunteering to help? We will need supporters to help make the event run smoothly. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering with:

  • Conference Set up (8:00 – 9:00 AM),
  • Clean up (3:00 – 4:00 PM),
  • Greeter (8:00 AM – 3:00 PM),
  • Other support during conference, or
  • Preparation in the days before the conference.

Sign Up to Present a Workshop

Share your expertise and passion by leading a workshop! It is a great opportunity to showcase your skills! If you have a specific skill or topic you would like to present, please fill out this form. For more information, contact the office.

Workshop sessions are in 90-minute blocks. If you require more time, we may schedule two blocks for your presentation. Workshop registrations will be limited to a maximum of 24 attendees per session.

We appreciate your suggestions and will try to accommodate as many as we can, but we cannot guarantee workshop proposals will be chosen. Any workshops will also be considered for future events.

We want your input! This conference will have workshops for learners, tutors, and others from the community. The theme of the conference is ‘Diversity in Literacy’ and will show the role of literacy in making connections and bring people together. 

What kinds of workshops or presentations would you like to see? Workshops are limited to 90-minute sessions each.

Please note that we will do our best to take all suggestions into account but cannot guarantee all ideas will be chosen. Any suggestions may be considered for future events.
