Digital Growth in 2023

This past year has been busy, but in a very good way! 2023 has been a year of growth in PALS’ digital literacy program.

We Grew in 2023

We grew when we updated our computer room from the ground up. We have new desktop computers, Chromebooks, smartphones, desks, chairs, and peripherals. The desktop computers were donated by Enbridge, and the rest of the upgrades to our computer room were made possible through the Digital Literacy Exchange Program (DLEP). I hope you’ve had a chance to come by and see all these fabulous updates!

We grew with the creation of not one, not two, but six structured classes: Computer Basics, Internet Basics, Skills for Work, Smart for All, Google Chromebooks, and Digital Literacy for English Language Learners. These classes run for ~15 sessions and cover digital skills from how to turn on your device, to using word processors, spreadsheets, and presentation software.

The volunteer tutors in Digital Literacy also grew this year; we welcomed and trained 17 new tutors in Digital Literacy. We also trained three tutors to teach the Digital Literacy for English Language Learners classes.

Plans for 2024

The classes we’ve been running in 2023 will be continuing in 2024. Talk to me to sign up!

We will also be hosting four digital workshops:

  • Wellness with Digital Apps
  • Digital Accessibility
  • Digital Craft Project
  • Budgeting with Google Sheets

Keep an eye out for more information on the workshops and when you can sign up. If there is something else you are interested in learning, let me know!

Something Fun

Are you looking for a fun way to practise your mouse skills? RoundGames has a lot of free games you can play in your internet browser. You use your mouse and keyboard in order to play browser games, which means you can practise these skills while having fun at the same time. (And if you want to also work on your literacy skills, they have a whole section of word games!)

Share Your Story

I would like to think that 2023 was a year of growth for all of us. Not just in Digital Literacy, but in your own lives. I want to know your story! You call me, email me, or stop by my office. I would love to chat with you.
