Monica Das is the Executive Director of Project Adult Literacy Society (PALS) a charity in Edmonton, Alberta. She is passionate about the importance of Adult Literacy and explains the importance of literacy in society and the links between literacy and all aspects of life. Through this podcast she introduces PALS and the importance of creating an opportunity for everyone to have the time and space to learn.
The statics of low literacy in Canada are staggering
- 1 in 4 adults (25%) have low literacy: meaning that they may not be able to understand food labels or household bills
- 1 in 2 adults (50%) have low numeracy/math literacy skills making basics calculations difficult
PALS is combating these statistics by offers the free tutoring services in English, LELL, Math and Digital Skills.
