Hello Everybody! Hope you are all enjoying summer. We have had a few warm days this month.
Things have slowed down in the office for the summer months, but I am getting more students and have made several new matches. Welcome Sjela, Bob and Darren. It is great to have you with us and we are happy to have you as a part of the PALS team.
In my quiet moments I have been revising the Literacy Tutor Resource Manual and working on the Grammar Booklets. I would really like to see if anyone could volunteer for a new Grammar Group for the Fall. I have learners waiting to join. Please call or email me if you are interested.
Big News PALS Learners! Relax and Let the Stories Flow Out of You!!
For the summer we will be having a ‘Summer Creative Writing’ Class at PALS. It will be drop in, but we will only accept 10 learners. Learners from Literacy and LELL students in level 4 or 5 are welcome.
Every Monday and Wednesday, 10:00 to 11:30 am, from July 25 to August 24 at the PALS office.
The goal of Creative Writing is to make writing fun and easy for you. We will be keeping a journal, writing about ideas and pictures and each student will be writing on an ongoing project–a story of a special memory or a story you would like to tell or retell.
It will be lots of fun and something that will help you write better.

Tutors!
Please discuss the Creative Writing opportunity with your student. I would really appreciate having 2 or 3 mentors to help me with the group. Any volunteers?
If you missed them, I will be offering a quick workshop on October 17th at 6:30 (one hour or less) to look at Scribing and the ‘Using Novels, Magazines and the Internet with your Match’ again on November 28th at 6:30 pm. This workshop takes about 1 and ½ hours. If you are a new tutor or have missed these workshops, they are essential skills for helping your learner.
