Math in December

As we are stepping towards the new year, let’s take a moment to celebrate each other. With your dedication, curiosity, and enthusiasm, anything is possible. Remember, every question you ask, every idea you share, and every challenge you face is a step forward in your learning journey.

Congratulations, Mousa, on passing the NAIT entrance exam. Best of luck to all my learners planning to write their test in the New Year.

Welcome New Tutors

Welcome to our new volunteer tutor, Clayton. We are excited to have you on board as a PALS team member.

Learning Activities

Group Tutoring:

We appreciate our tutors who came forward in running group tutoring. Jackie ran two group sessions at the PALS office and one at the Stanley-Milner library. Peggy, Eric, Harini, Nathan, Paul, Sam, and Vaneeza, thank you for running additional groups at PALS.

One-on-one tutoring:

We appreciate the one-on-one tutoring offered in person and online by our valuable tutors. Because of their dedication, we were not only able to help learners in the city but also those who had to work outside of Edmonton.

Rapid Trade Math:

Rapid Trade Math group class was organized for the first time for learners working towards passing their Trades entrance exam. It was held every Saturday at the Stanley-Milner Library. This group ran for 15 weeks from September to December.

Science for Trade learners:

During the fall a trade-specific science group was also offered. This class offers AIT-recommended science topics ranging from physics to chemistry. Thank you, Seun, our instructor, who made learning science fun and easy.

Maths Test Preparation Workshops:

This year, we also offered three interactive math test preparation sessions. The learners were given an exam setting similar to an actual trade entrance exam.

Two four-week workshops on financial literacy were held during the 2023 Spring and Fall. The class mainly addressed basic concepts related to budgeting, needs, wants, and savings. Thank you, Catherine and Peggy, for running the course. In 2024, we hope to offer more financial topics like bank accounts, taxes, loans, and even writing cheques.

Standard First Aid:

A Standard First Aid (Heart and Stroke Foundation), sixteen-hour course was offered in October. The workshop was interactive, and skill development was focused on improving learners’ confidence.

We are planning to continue and extend these trainings in 2024. Look out in our newsletter for more information and registration.

Dear volunteers, without your support, all these learnings would not be possible. Once again thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to your learners.

Dear learners, your dedication to learning is commendable. We are here to support you in every step of this exciting journey. Keep shining and learning!

Have a safe and happy holiday! See you all in the New Year.

Happy New Year!!!!!!
