No Hazy Lazy Days of Summer for Literacy!

Hi everyone! Summer usually signals a time to slow down a little and start soaking up the sun. Sadly June, however, has been slow to start feeling like summer. ☹ It is also not so lazy because it is quite a busy month. Looking at the calendar you will see June marks many different events. June is Pride Month, National Safety Month, and it also promotes many health topics: ASL Awareness Month, Brain Injury Awareness Month, and many more.

June also has many special days including National Indigenous Peoples Day, Multiculturalism Day, and more. And, of course, we can’t forget that we have Father’s Day on June 16th! Don’t forget to show some love to all the fathers and people who had father roles in your life!

For literacy in June, we will be continuing our Book Club and Singalong until the end of the month. We also just hosted a Scribing Workshop for our tutors on June 14th. We are hoping to offer more workshops over the summer for learners and tutors. Keep your eyes and ears open for news on that. We also had some new tutors join us this month. Welcome to Jovin and Liselotte!

We, also, have some important changes with our PALS Literacy staff. Bonnie Caron is moving into a new role as Literacy Specialist. Bonnie will be working on exciting new projects such as creating literacy resources. She will also continue to run our Book Club and Singalong Programs. Kim White will now be the full time Literacy Coordinator. She will continue to support all learners and tutors involved with our Literacy Program. Please connect with Kim about anything related to the Literacy Program.
